Sonnet VIII

Shakespeare's sonnet VII has to do with differenet levels in relationships ( single, dating, marriage, children) and the responsiblities and feelings that comes along with it. Shakespeare is referring to single life as a unhappy point in a person's life and that marriage especially when it involves children reflects a happy person. However, I also believe that Shakespeare's implies that a major feeling that comes with marriage is doubt & "longing" to relieve the single life

Masquerade

What possibilities does a masquerade afford its participants?

  -  The masquerade provides a large array of possibilities to  it attendants. A masquerade acts as a beautiful and extravaggent sheild. It protects an indiviudal's physical identity while bringing forth the person's true personality or alter ego. A person say or act in any they please without destroying friendships and relationships or they can do the opposite and cause catastophic damage without a minimal chance of getting caught.

Much Ado about Love

Beatrice: “I would rather hear my dog bark at a crow than hear a man swear that he loves me.” I.i.121

Beatrice unfortunately believes that love is out of reach and impossible; thus, if one were to express their undying love for her she would simply dismiss the idea because she would automatically assume he was lying. Therefore, Beatrice made it clear to her peers that she is uninterested in hearing about and getting involved in a emotionally romantic situations.

"Much Ado about Nothing"

William Shakespeare's "Much Ado about Nothing" suggests that there will be a large conflict, commotion, tragedy that has an insignificant base. After reading Act 1 and a majority of Act 2, I can infer that the plan purposed on bringing Beatrice and Benedict together will stir up a lot of problems among the primary characters especially those involved in devising the Master Plan. Being familiar with William Shakespeare's genre of writing I can also infer that this tedious yet considerate plan will result in the end of a few lives.

Like _ you know? - Auditory

Listening to Taylor Mail's poem was more powerful than just reading it because he accentuate the important phrases in words perfectly. Taylor Mali humorously suggests that our current generation lack the skills to effectively articulate what they mean. Our generation have difficulty translating their thoughts into words because may individuals in our society find it more important to be "cool and hip" rather than aggressively intelligent. Thus, in order to fulfill our desire to become popular, individuals have filled their verbal content with "invisible questions" to give the illusion they do not know what they are talking about. Thus, illustrating the importance of words and spoken language which can be seen on his scrabble T-shirt.

Taylor Mali: Text

The only benefit from reading this particular poem is that I can process the every word at a steady pace rather than forcefully going at the authors. The poem loses its dynamic and luster if it is written because there are certain phrases and words that need to be expressed, and articulated the same way Taylor Mali did.

Erratic Peace

The message I attained from listening to Shihan's poem is that  words, language, literature, and everything else that is associated with it is  extremely important but underestimated. Words is an expressive tool that can teach one about themselves as well as the world. However, Shihan suggests that in recent times, words are not important to individuals which can be seen in the current generations lack of using of REAL words. Shihan uses erratic, scattered, and swift diction to let allow his message to flow freely from his soul making his piece genuine and true to the self; Thus, Shihan's poem combined with his visual and auditory presentation creates a strong, genuine, emotional poem.

Summer Breeze & Lemonade

Emily Dickinson poem "Tell all Truth but Tell it Slant" is compared to a cool summer breeze and sipping on lemonade in the shade because it its fresh and refreshing atmostphere. Although, her tone is assertive and demanding , her poem excute serenity largely due to the tone, imagery, and alliteration (which I didn't notice until it was read several time aloud in class).  Also, the underlying message of the poem is straightforward and fairly easy to comprehend which from my experience wasn't common method used in that time period.

Billy Collins & "Litany"

Billy Collins' version to "Litany" was diabolically hilarious because of the unfamiliar approach he took to describe the women that he loves.  The piece was very simple and straight-forward and the imagery provided by the writer was intense. Additionally, when the piece was performed by Collins made the piece more complete and hilarious; especially because his tone complimented his sarcastic approach and delivery.

Shakespeare v. Collins

Shakespeare's sonnet 130 compare's to Billy Collins new and improved version of "Litany" in writing style and theme. Both authors use an incredible amount of  imagery and rapacious humor to describe and convey the women they love deeply. Instead of comparing their beloved to beautiful things in the world, putting get emphasis on her best assets. Both writers decide to accentuate their lover's flaws; suggesting that although their lover have so many flaws, and although those flaws can be worse than their own, that doesn't stop him from loving her because love is more than a person's best assets and flaws.
